The Technics SL-DL5 is a fully automatic linear-tracking direct-drive turntable introduced around 1982–1983. It was part of Technics’ highly regarded slim-profile linear tracker range, positioned above many entry-level belt-drive decks. Despite its compact appearance, it incorporates much of the engineering that made Technics famous for speed accuracy and reliability.

Why it sounds so good
The SL-DL5 benefits from linear tracking, where the stylus remains tangent to the groove exactly as it was during record cutting. Conventional pivoted tonearms always have some tracking-angle error, but the DL5 virtually eliminates it.
