NAD 716 Amp Integrated Surround Audio 5.1 80w Phono Stage

The NAD 716 Stereo Receiver is a more powerful stereo receiver from NAD’s classic analogue Hi-Fi generation, combining an integrated amplifier with an AM/FM tuner. Rated at approximately 40 watts per channel into 8 ohms, it provides greater continuous output capability than the smaller NAD 713, making it suitable for a wider selection of loudspeakers. Like other NAD designs of its period, the 716 focuses on practical amplifier performance, with attention to dynamic headroom, current delivery and low-distortion reproduction. Its understated appearance conceals a capable amplifier section designed to provide convincing musical dynamics without requiring an unnecessarily large or complicated system.

In terms of sound quality, the NAD 716 offers a full-bodied, smooth and authoritative presentation, particularly impressive when driving traditional two-way bookshelf speakers and moderately demanding floorstanding models. Its additional power gives music greater dynamic freedom, allowing bass notes to sound more substantial while maintaining clarity through the midrange. Vocals retain a natural warmth, while instruments are reproduced with pleasing tonal richness and separation. The receiver is particularly enjoyable with analogue sources, CD players and classic stereo recordings, delivering the kind of relaxed yet involving listening experience that helped establish NAD’s reputation among music enthusiasts.

The NAD 716’s greatest appeal lies in its balance of musical performance, versatility and vintage Hi-Fi character. Its integrated tuner makes it a practical all-in-one receiver, while the amplifier section provides sufficient power for many domestic listening environments. Compared with lower-powered entry-level receivers, the 716 offers additional flexibility when matching speakers, particularly models that benefit from stronger amplifier drive. Its classic NAD styling, straightforward operation and musical presentation make it an attractive option for enthusiasts seeking an affordable yet serious stereo system. When properly serviced and partnered with suitable speakers, the NAD 716 can deliver an enjoyable listening experience that remains competitive with many modern entry-level amplifiers.
