The Mission MX-4 is a 2.5-way floorstanding loudspeaker introduced around 2010 as part of Mission’s MX Series. It was positioned in the middle of the range, above the MX-3 and below the flagship MX-5. Although designed as an affordable speaker, it incorporated several technologies from Mission’s higher-end models, including Paramid fibre-cone drivers, Kapton voice coils, and an internally braced cabinet.

Driver technology
Mission developed the Paramid cone as a woven fibre composite that combines high stiffness with good internal damping. Compared with conventional polypropylene cones, it flexes less at high output levels, producing cleaner bass and lower midrange. The Kapton voice-coil former improves heat resistance and power handling during sustained listening.
The 25 mm silk-dome tweeter is mounted behind a shallow waveguide formed into the grille assembly. Mission recommends using the speakers with the grilles fitted, as the waveguide helps control dispersion and improves integration between the tweeter and bass/mid drivers.
Cabinet and crossover
The cabinet is heavily braced to reduce panel resonance and uses a rear reflex port to extend bass response down to around 44 Hz. The crossover is designed for bi-wiring or bi-amping, allowing separate connections to the bass and treble sections if desired. Overall impedance remains an easy 8 Ω, making the MX-4 compatible with a wide range of amplifiers.
Sound quality
The MX-4 has a balanced, slightly warm presentation with a full low end and an open midrange. The dual 165 mm drivers deliver respectable bass extension and good dynamic capability, making the speaker suitable for medium to large rooms. Vocals are natural and well-focused, while the silk-dome tweeter provides smooth highs without excessive brightness.
Stereo imaging is stable with good depth, and the speaker maintains composure even at higher listening levels. Compared with earlier Mission designs such as the 700 or 750 series, the MX-4 is voiced to be more forgiving, trading a little excitement for easier long-term listening. Independent reviews praised its cohesion and lack of obvious sonic weaknesses, describing it as an easy speaker to enjoy across many music genres.
