Diatone DS-3000 Legendary Japan Audiophile Monitoring Speaker with Custom Made Solid Wood Stands on Heavy Duty Wheels
RM12,800.00
The Diatone DS-3000 (released in 1984) is a masterpiece of Japanese “Golden Era” audio engineering. It was designed by Mitsubishi’s Diatone division to push the boundaries of material science, specifically targeting a neutral, high-resolution monitor sound that could rival the legendary Yamaha NS-2000.

Technology & Components
1. The Boron DUD (Diatone Unified Diaphragm)
Diatone was a pioneer in using Boron, a material second only to diamond in hardness but incredibly light.
-
The Tech: In the DS-3000, the voice coil bobbin and the dome are integrated into a single structure (DUD).
-
The Benefit: By eliminating the glue joint between the coil and the dome, mechanical energy is transferred directly. This results in lightning-fast transient response and pushes the breakup distortion far beyond the audible range (up to 40 kHz).
2. Aramid Honeycomb Cones
The woofer and mid-bass drivers use a “Honeycomb” structure made of Aramid (a high-strength synthetic fiber).
-
The Tech: This sandwich construction provides extreme rigidity to prevent “cone flex” during heavy excursions while remaining lightweight.
-
The Benefit: Unlike paper cones that can sound “warm” but soft, Aramid Honeycomb provides a dry, tight, and highly accurate bass response.
3. Acoustic Air Suspension (Sealed Cabinet)
The DS-3000 does not have a bass port. It relies on a completely sealed cabinet.
-
The Benefit: This produces “tight, controlled bass” that doesn’t bloat or boom, regardless of room placement. However, it requires a high-quality amplifier with high damping factors to truly wake up the 32cm woofer.
-
Transparency: The DS-3000 is often described as “sweeter” and more detailed than the Yamaha NS-1000/2000. It is a revealing speaker; if the recording is poor, you will hear it. If the recording is high-fidelity, it will sound holographic.
-
Midrange Clarity: Because it is a 4-way system, the midrange is split between two dedicated drivers (16cm and 5cm). This leads to incredible vocal presence and separation between instruments in complex orchestral or jazz pieces.
-
Bass Character: Do not expect “sloppy” or overwhelming bass. The bass here is surgical. It is fast, textured, and deep, but it only hits when the music demands it.
